What a relief to be seen by you

“What a relief to be seen by you” is an ode to friendship and the beauty of the intimate process of collaborating with my models. With this work I aim to turn my back on the distrustful and patronizing relationships between the one who sees and the one who is being looked at: photographer and model – the viewer and the image.

I believe that empowering my models to present themselves as they want to be seen and showing compassion towards the audience by letting them inside our process is an act of rebellion against objectification and the male gaze.

Claudia Moraru (b.1999) is a Romanian photographer based in The Netherlands whose practice revolves around human interaction and making visual poetry that’s inspired from the seemingly insignificant mundane observations that add a layer of nostalgia to the everyday life.
